Wayne Schlock as project manager/architect at DMJM Rottet

The challenge in this project was how to exhibit all of the products within a very limited space without creating an unfocused and crowded presentation. To add to the challenge, the existing ceilings were relatively low. Each manufacturer wanted a distinct showroom within the larger showroom, yet all of these distinct spaces needed to work together as parts of the whole showroom.

For one manufacturer, the solution was to create what we called a stage. A backlit closet contained chair samples behind sliding doors of translucent acrylic. Samples were placed in a large grid in the closet and revealed as needed so not to crowd the overall showroom with too much product.

For a second manufacturer, office vignettes were separated by scrim dividers providing definition and focus for the space but allowing silhouettes to be seen in the next space.

For both manufacturers, a glossy stretched vinyl ceiling was used, to hide ductwork and plumbing, while at the same time making the space seem bigger with a reflective surface.
