Existing House

The original home was an uncoordinated mess of additions, but the house had lots of potential. The front of house had a great view, but with a wall of floor to ceiling glass, the Living Room was overexposed with brightness and hot in the warmer months. The back of house was dark with cheap windows and lots of security bars. The plan was an inefficient rabbit warren of small rooms and corridors with unnecessarily low ceilings. The living room was separated from the kitchen by a bedroom. This convoluted plan limited the air flow, light and views in most of the house.

The Design

The solution involved eliminating all corridors and reworking the plan with new openings allowing rooms to open onto one another and share views, light and air. The Dining Room took the place between the Kitchen and the Living Room with a focus on a redesigned Garden Patio through a new glass window. New hardwood floors were installed throughout and a wall of custom wood blinds allow control of the light and heat in the Living Room. Overall a neutral palate of materials allows the artwork to become prominent in the interior design of the home.
