the pavillion

unbuilt project

The Pavilion project was to be a separate garden structure connected to an existing large Italian Renaissance Revival home by a corridor. The program called for an addition that could function as a new ground floor master suite or a family room. The owner’s love of the existing house guided an approach that pulled the addition away from the house, offering an opportunity to introduce a new contemporary architectural vocabulary that related more to the garden and fit between 2 garden walls, a sort of sculptural garden folly. The structure of the pavilion would be light, with a floating roof .The spaces in the pavilion would be filled with natural light and would open up to views to an existing pool and garden areas
